‘Each of these “last words” has the power to transform the lives of you and me, for they are the word of God … They reveal their secrets, slowly, if we meditate on them and pray.’

Cardinal Basil Hume

Seven Last Words presents former Archbishop of Westminster Cardinal Basil Hume’s moving reflections on the final utterances of Jesus on the Cross. It was collated and edited by Cardinal Hume’s friend and literary executor, Fr Liam Kelly.

The Pocket Library of Spiritual Wisdom comprises some of the very best Christian writing published by Darton, Longman and Todd since its foundation in 1959.

Cardinal Basil Hume (1923-1999) was Abbot of Ampleforth from 1963 until his appointment as Archbishop of Westminster in 1976; he remained Cardinal Archbishop of Westminster until his death from cancer in June 1999, when he was widely mourned both nationally and internationally. His many books include Mystery of the Cross, Mystery of the Incarnation and Basil in Blunderland.
